In this edition, we speak with Vincent Sim, Operations Manager based in Singapore, as he shares insights into his role, what makes Singapore unique from a logistics perspective, and the people and experiences he values most at Vanguard.

What is your role?

I’m the Operations Manager based in Singapore. My role focuses on overseeing day-to-day operations, driving process improvements, supporting our regional team, and ensuring we consistently deliver reliable service to our customers and partners. I work closely with our Country Managers and department managers.

I’m also involved in other activities, including pricing for special arrangements.

What do you enjoy most about your role, and what makes it exciting?

What I enjoy most is the opportunity to solve problems, optimise processes, and support our teams in achieving better outcomes.

What is unique about your region from a logistics perspective?

Singapore plays a unique role in the global logistics network. As one of the world’s leading transshipment hubs, it serves as a critical gateway connecting Asia with the rest of the world. The region is highly interconnected, fast-paced, and customer-driven, which requires logistics providers to be agile, innovative, and responsive.

What are the key trends you are noticing in the industry?

Several key trends are shaping the future of the logistics industry.

Organizations are placing greater emphasis on operational efficiency while advancing responsible operations and business practices.

There has also been an increase in automation, acquisitions, and sustainable practices.

During this time of change, companies that can adapt quickly to evolving market conditions while maintaining strong customer relationships will be best positioned for long-term success.

What advice would you give to young professionals considering a career in logistics?

Be curious, stay adaptable, and never stop learning. At Vanguard, you can build a successful career if you have the right mindset and strong character.
