The Vanguard series offers a glimpse into everyday life at Vanguard, highlighting stories and perspectives from different members of our teams worldwide. By having candid conversations, we discover more about our colleagues' roles and values that shape our culture.
In this issue, you'll find an interview with John Baricevic, Head of Commercial SAPAC (South Asia Pacific), who discusses what makes the region unique and shares his favourite aspects of his work!
What is your role?
As Head of Commercial, I am responsible for managing all commercial aspects of our business within the SAPAC region. My main responsibilities are sales team performance management and training. Though, I am also involved in other activities that include pricing, procurement, product development, and collaboration with international offices and agents.
What is unique about your region from a logistics lens?
The uniqueness of each country within our region is what makes SAPAC so unique. Each nation has its own distinct cultural, market, and geographic characteristics, along with unique opportunities. Therefore, deep local understanding, experience, and expertise are key to serve these markets effectively.
What differentiates Vanguard?
Our global network sets Vanguard apart, allowing us to offer consistent service in 36 countries and deliver exclusive value-added services like Adesso, Global Track and Trace, and Visibility +, to name a few.
What’s your favourite thing about Vanguard?
One thing I love about Vanguard is that we have a relatively flat management structure and foster an informal culture! This encourages open dialogue, communication, and collaboration between staff and management teams.
What are the key trends you are noticing in the logistics industry?
Organisations are placing greater focus on improving operational efficiency and promoting responsible operations. Thus, there has been an increase in adoption of AI, automation, acquisitions and sustainable practices.
As technology advances, businesses are focusing on smarter solutions and streamlined processes to stay competitive and meet evolving customer demands. We, at Vanguard, are well equipped to respond to these shifts and deliver that meet evolving market needs.
What advice would you give to young professionals considering a career in logistics?
